Inspiration

07.31.2007

Anyone who has spent a considerable amount of time in the industry would agree that trucking is a lifestyle not just a job. Commercial drivers experience long hours of work on the road enduring relentless road vibrations, erratic sleep habits, unhealthy diets, a sedentary lifestyle, and a lack of sanitary conditions. All of these elements increase the likelihood that drivers will become hurt, ill or fatigued. With this continual assault on the body, the US department of Labor - Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that seven out of every 100 trucking industry employees will experience work related injuries and illnesses this year.

These injuries and illnesses become costly to both drivers and employers as productive time at work is lost, and healthcare costs continue to skyrocket. For many trucking companies, including trucking employees and independent drivers, medical costs from injury or illness can consume more than half of corporate profits.

The only solution to this growing problem is better health promotion and prevention. On February 2, 2005 we lost a dear friend, and the trucking industry lost a valued member of 35 years. The battle that he faced with his health and wellness is not unlike the battle many in the industry face every day. This has inspired us to work towards a better solution. We hope that our loss can become your gain.
