Question:

I am about to take the plunge and open my own business. This will be my first experience as a business owner. I have a great idea and a very good business plan, but I just don't know how to get my name out there without spending a ton of money on marketing. Since my budget will be relatively small until the business starts earning I could use some suggestions.

Answer:

Check with your banker, and the SBA (small business administration) to see if you would qualify for any of the available low interest loans. If you are using a business plan, make sure your numbers are realistic. As far as marketing a business on a low budget, use your business connections. Connect with past business acquaintances and ask them if they have any connections they can share with you as well. Get your face out there and most importantly, don't be deterred by a few closed doors.
